Paul Jenkins in the 1960s and 1970s: Space, Color and Light
This exhibition features over 20 major abstract paintings by Paul Jenkins during the period after Jenkins first worked with the new water-based acrylic in 1960. Seeking to sustain translucency and increase density in the color overlays, Jenkins first primed his canvases, allowing his poured pigments to pool and flow on the surface rather than soak in. Jenkin's first solo exhibition was at the Martha Jackson Gallery in 1956.

Under Each Other's Spell: The Gutai and New York
The avant-garde Gutai Art Group, which was founded in Osaka, Japan in 1954 was introduced to the United States at Martha Jackson Gallery in September 1958. David Anderson, son of Martha Jackson, loaned several important archival documents to the exhibition, which examines the relationship that developed between the Gutai Group and New York artists in the 1950s and 1960s. Looking to Jackson Pollock and French painter George Mathieu as artists who "grapple with the material in a way which is completely appropriate to it," the artists mailed copies of their journals, Gutai, to build their international network. Organized by the Jackson-Pollock House, the exhibition was curated by Ming Tiampo, associate professor of art history at Carleton University in Ottawa, who contributed an essay to the illustrated catalogue.
