5 Things I love about Buffalo
Friendly people, lots of cultural things to do, neighborhoods with porches, old houses, sidewalks and beautiful gardens, great schools, shops and restaurants that I can walk to. Affordable space to have an art studio.
My favorite local hidden treasure you shouldn't miss
In about an hour, I can have a day away at one of three international destinations: the Chautauqua Institution, famed for its summer programming of lectures, concerts and other performing arts on beautiful Chautauqua Lake; Ellicottville, a charming ski town south of Buffalo with great hiking, shops and restaurants; and Niagara on the Lake, a short drive across the border in Canada, featuring world class theatre (the Shaw Festival), my favorite restaurant, Zees, and great little shops to poke around in.
My perfect day spent in the Buffalo area
An early morning run with my friends. There are so many great runs right in Buffalo, some of my favorites are along the Buffalo waterfront, around Hoyt Lake taking in the beautiful architecture of the Albright-Knox Art Gallery and the Historical Society building, or running through neighborhood streets and passing homes such as the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Darwin Martin House. There is also a running path through Frederick Law Olmsted's Delaware Park that goes right past the Buffalo Zoo and the Bison exhibit. The runs always end at one of the coffee houses on Elmwood Avenue...on weekends the run is followed up with breakfast at one of our great local restaurants. My favorite breakfast can be found at Betty’s in Allentown. The day concludes with dinner at one or our many fine local restaurants. Hutch's, Tempo, Oliver's, Lombardo's and the Buffalo Chop House are favorites.
If there is an opening at the Albright-Knox, that would cap off my perfect day.
