Albright-Knox struts its stuff
Art gallery shows the depths of its stunning collection
The depth and diversity of the Albright-Knox Art Gallery’s amazing collection will be revealed through the creative contrast of its outstanding impressionist, post-impressionist, and modern masterpieces with a selection of recent acquisitions in an exhibition entitled “Remix the Collection.” Now through Oct. 28, 2007.
“Remix the Collection” is contained within three spaces throughout the gallery, each of which exemplifies a specific theme. The “American Scene” space assembles images of everyday life that reflect a natural national iconography. “The Resonant Muse” area hosts a group art display that was inspired by music. The third space, “Minimal Narratives” highlights works by Mona Hautom and others as they elegantly tell stories related to political and social issues.
To enjoy one of the exhibit’s highlights, step outside onto the impressive Sculpture Garden, showcasing look and see, an eleven-and-one-half-foot twisted plane of stainless steel from artist Jim Hodges. The sculpture features several reflective surface areas, visually reorienting the viewer’s experience of surrounding architecture.
According to a recent article in the Financial Times, "The Albright-Knox is, of course, justly celebrated for its modern and contemporary collections - only MOMA outshines it in terms of quality and depth."
The Gallery is open daily, with free admission on Fridays from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. For more information, call 716-882-8700 or visit www.albrightknox.org
