Savor the joy of Polish cooking on Dyngus Day

Botanical GardensEaster is here and its time to celebrate…..the Dyngus way on Dyngus Day in Buffalo! Traditionally celebrated on the first Monday after Easter, this year’s Dyngus Day falls on April 9th, with events running until April 14th.  Dyngus Day is historically a way of celebrating the end of Lent and embracing the Easter holiday. Through the years, Dyngus Day has developed into a celebration of Polish American culture, heritage, and traditions.

The newest addition to the festivities is the Inaugural Dyngus Day parade which starts at 5 p.m. on April 9th. The Parade will travel from the city’s venerable Broadway Market to the architecturally stunning Central Terminal in Buffalo’s historic Polonia District. The parade route will pass numerous Dyngus Day celebrations including those at local churches and community buildings.

Buffalo is widely recognized as the Dyngus Day Capitol of the World. Dyngus Day festivities in Buffalo began in 1961 with the Chopin Singing Society and have since grown into grand festival proportions. Events include Polish bands from across the nation, unique Polish Festhalls, and traditional Polish food that will be held all across the Buffalo and Niagara regions.
