It “Remains To Be Seen” at the CEPA Gallery
Photographs, video and photo grids by artist Carolee Schneemann
For decades Buffalo has been at the forefront of North America’s contemporary arts scene. One of the major players responsible for pushing the envelope of style and subject matter is the CEPA Gallery.
Now through May 26th, 2007, the CEPA Gallery is proud to display the works of Carolee Schneemann, in an exhibit entitled “Remains To Be Seen.” This thematic retrospective exhibition surveys the breadth and depth of Schneemann’s expansive contribution to contemporary art. It focuses on the complexities of her creative process and its scope of influence. “Remains To Be Seen” features photographs and video and photo grids on three diverse, core issues: War, Erotics, and Felines. This exhibit is made possible with major support from the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts.
Split Decision, a catalog featuring the work of Carolee Schneemann and the work of a companion exhibit in Toronto will be available at the gallery. The publication focuses on the artist’s career from different historical and political perspectives in an attempt to expand critical awareness of her work.
CEPA Gallery was founded in 1974 by and for artists, and is a not-for-profit art center dedicated to promoting the photo-related and electronic arts. It is located in the historic Market Arcade building in Buffalo's downtown Theatre District. For more information, call 716-856-2717, or visit www.cepagallery.com
