Special exhibits examines Buffalo Niagara’s role in human rights and artifacts of Gilded Age grandees
The Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society features two special exhibits this Spring. Now through May, “On the Road to Freedom,” an exhibit highlighting Western New York’s important role in the advancement of human rights during the 19th and 20th centuries is being showcased. The exhibit is a celebration of the centennial of the founding of the Niagara Movement, which preceded and later merged with the NAACP to advance civil rights.
Also running through August 2007 is “Bon Voyage: Buffalo Travels the World 1830 to 1930.” This exhibit allows visitors to read letters and travel diaries of Buffalonians as they traveled around the world to exotic locations centuries ago, such as the Middle East. The exhibit also features keepsakes acquired during the trips such as jewelry and vases acquired abroad; passenger lists and itineraries of trips.
