CEPA Gallery and the Albright-Knox Art Gallery commemorate the life and work of legendary photographer
Life magazine photographer Ken Heyman’s work is featured in two major Buffalo exhibitions. Galleries will display highlights from a 50-year career.
Discover the legendary work of Ken Heyman, renowned photographer who shot over 150 assignments for Life Magazine as his work is exhibited in the CEPA Gallery from June 16th-August 26th. Entitled Ken Heyman: Being Human, the gallery will display an extensive look at more than 50 years of Heyman’s multifaceted career. A special coordinated exhibit, Ken Heyman: Pop Portraits opened at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery on June 15th and will run through the same time.
In addition to his renowned work as a photographer, Heyman is also a founding member of the International Center for Photography and author of 54 books. He collaborated with distinguished anthropologist Margaret Mead for 20 years.
Heyman’s photography seeks to capture human nature and underlying beauty. His contemporary work includes Hip Shots, a series of images shot literally from the hip that reveal people in their most candid, simple and purest form. His exhibition at the CEPA Gallery will celebrate Heyman’s vision and will serve as his first major retrospective, presenting selections from his early journalistic and anthropological work through his contemporary experimental images. The exhibit at the Albright Knox will feature a series of Heyman’s portraits of such famed artists as Andy Warhol and Claes Oldenburg.
