The Wing's The Thing
Work up an appetite and set aside time to visit the National Buffalo Wing Festival on Labor Day weekend in Buffalo.
Put aside thoughts of dieting, because the National Buffalo Wing Festival is coming soon. On September 2nd and 3rd at Dunn-Tire Park in downtown Buffalo, wing lovers from across the country and around the world will come to enjoy the city’s famous wings as well as an entire line up of fun family events.
The Wing Festival is home to unique events found only in Buffalo on Labor Day weekend. Events such as the Bleu Cheese Competition will have contestants plucking for chicken wings in a kiddie-sized pool filled with bleu cheese and chicken wings. The Buffalo Buffet Bowl is back for its second year with contestants devouring as many Buffalo food favorites as possible.
Back by popular demand, the U.S. Chicken Wing Championship will return on Saturday at 5 p.m. Contestants will gobble up as many chicken wings as possible in the allotted time and the contestant that eats the most wings wins the $1200 grand prize. It’s a saucy sight!
The 4th annual Hot Sauce Recipe Contest will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday. Local celebrities will judge the contest and winners will receive prizes, bragging rights and, best of all, national publicity. Also, the Miss Buffalo Wing Contest will have contestants making a personal appearance, wing tasting and answering Buffalo Trivia questions as they vie for the annually bestowed title.
Entertainment will be provided by such favorites as Hit and Run making its third appearance. Known for sounding like Jimmy Buffet, Pirate Dreams will make their debut on Sunday. Watch the crowd for Barney Fife and Gomer Pyle impersonators.
Come with your family and friends and celebrate Buffalo’s most notable icon – Buffalo wings!
