The 26th annual Curtain Up! celebration marking the official opening of theatre season will be held in Downtown Buffalo’s Theatre District on Friday, September 14th. Attracting thousands, the event celebrates the rich culture and diversity of theatre within the city. This one-night-only event features a black-tie gala dinner at Shea’s Performing Arts Center, theatrical productions at over 11 theatres and free outdoor live entertainment.
The night is divided into three acts beginning at 5pm with cocktails/dinner/entertainment. Shea’s is set to host a cocktail reception open to the general public with a cash bar. Following is a Gala Dinner on Shea’s Stage with additional seating on the balcony level.
The second act begins at 8:30pm with area theatres commencing performances. This year’s shows include “The Musical of Musicals-The Musical!” at Shea’s Smith Theatre, “Don’t Talk to the Actors” at Studio Arena and “It Ain’t Nothin’ But The Blues” at the Paul Robeson Theatre at the African American Culture Center.
Act Three is the Party! Following the performances, at 10:15pm, a three-hour free community celebration will be held on Main Street in the Theatre District, featuring live entertainment with a variety of performing artists.
