Great minds connect
The Roycroft Campus’s annual conference returns for Arts & Crafts enthusiasts
Arts and Crafts aficionados will learn and be inspired at the Roycroft Campus’s annual conference October 26th-28th. Entitled The Connection: 2007, the conference is a celebration of Western New York’s historic turn of the 20th century Arts & Crafts Trail.
This year’s theme of this intimate gathering of Arts & Crafts enthusiasts is “Great minds of the turn of the 20th century.” From the 1860s to the 1920s, this historic social and artistic eruption was the catalyst that sparked a turn against the Industrial Revolution to find a better way to live within the environment.
For more than 20 years, the Roycroft Campus has hosted long weekend conferences with a focus on bringing together top-notch scholars to emphasize the wealth of knowledge and share it with colleagues and friends.
The keynote speaker will be William Whitla, well-known scholar of the William Morris Society Canada. He will provide an upfront and personal view of William Morris, the Father of the Arts & Crafts Movement. Other guest speakers will offer in-depth looks at different aspects of the Roycroft legacy.
Each afternoon the conference is open to tour the Elbert Hubbard Museum and the Roycroft Arts Museum, which contain the best collections of Roycroft artifacts in the world. Every campus building will also have ongoing demonstrations by Roycroft Renaissance artisans of leatherwork, woodcarving, printing press and fine art demonstrated and discussed by artisans and experts of this generation.
A post-conference excursion from October 28-31 will allow visitors the opportunity to continue their Arts & Crafts conference experience by joining a 3-day tour of Arts & Crafts sites in Western New York.
The Connection: 2007 will be held at the Roycroft Campus, a national historic landmark in East Aurora, New York, only 20 minutes from Downtown Buffalo. A conference pass is available which includes entry to all lectures or an “a la carte” fee schedule is also available to those who are unable to attend for the entire weekend.
