A New Era Begins at Studio Arena Theatre
Kathleen Gaffney Takes the Reins at Buffalo’s Nationally Recognized Producing Theatre
Studio Arena Theatre welcomes “Three Days of Rain” – the first in a regional theatre since the Broadway production starring Julia Roberts earlier this year. Running from Friday, October 27th through Sunday, November 12th, “Three Days of Rain” is Artistic Director Kathleen Gaffney’s directing debut with Studio Arena Theatre.
Written by Richard Greenberg in 1997, “Three Days of Rain” won the L.A. Drama Critics Award, was a runner-up for the Pulitzer Prize, and was nominated for the Oliver, Drama Desk and Hull-Warriner awards.
“’Three Days of Rain’ is a personal favorite,” said Gaffney. “How fortunate to make my directing debut here with a show that is full of sharp and stinging language, arresting images, and deep insight. It’s no surprise that the play was short listed for the Pulitzer Prize.”
“Three Days of Rain” is a story about three people who grew up as childhood friends when their late fathers worked as partners in a renowned architecture firm. They meet, again, as adults to divide the legacy left to them and the story unfolds as they uncover the mystery of their fathers’ lives a generation earlier.
When the play premiered in London, the London Evening Standard said it demonstrates “how biology may give a helping hand to destiny; how the sins, or rather our parents’ traits and decisions may play shaping parts in our lives.”
Tickets are on sale now and range from $26 - $54. Single and subscription tickets can be purchased by calling the Studio Arena box office at 716-856-5650 or 800-77STAGE. Additional information is available at www.studioarena.org.
The Studio Arena Theatre season continues with “The 4th Wise Man” (November 24th – December 23rd), “The Syringa Tree” (January 5th through January 28th), “Of Mice and Men” (February 11th through March 4th), “The Mystery of Irma Vep” (March 16th through April 7th) and “Pump Boys and Dinettes” (April 20th through May 13th).
