The Write Stuff
Nobel prize winning author to read and discuss his work at historic venue
Babel…a series of readings and conversations with some of the world’s most prominent writers will begin its series on November 8th with Nobel Prize winning author Orhan Pamuk. Originally from Turkey, Pamuk’s works include Snow which was the 2006 winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature. The evening will be composed of readings and discussions followed by a question and answer period, book signing and reception.
Presented by the Just Buffalo Literary Center and Hallwalls, the series will be held at Babeville, formerly known as The Church on Delaware Avenue. The series seeks to support Buffalo Niagara’s ongoing efforts to define and promote itself as a vibrant center for the exploration of global cultures.
Each event will be preceded by a month's worth of cultural activities related to the culture of the author, including: book discussions, topic panels, cooking demonstrations and food tastings, musical programs, and more. In collaboration with the International Institute of Buffalo, Just Buffalo will create and distribute readers' guides and informational packets to increase understanding of the cultural forces at play in each author's work. These activities will culminate with each author visiting Buffalo to directly engage local audiences in an open dialogue centered on their work.
The series will resume on December 7th, with Chilean Author Ariel Dorfman and will continue in the Spring with Derek Walcott on March 13th and Kiran Desai on April 24th.
