Arty Party

Extraordinary multimedia visual and music performances to be held at the Essex Arts Center

Flash PartyBuffalo has long been a city for progressive artists and audiences.  One of the institutions that fosters this movement is continuing to do its part to give back to the community.  November 10th, 2007 marks the annual Flash Party to be held at the Essex Arts Center.  This event is a stimulation of the senses and will feature an extraordinary multimedia visual and acoustical backdrop.  Go-go dancers, video lighting, film, live bands including the If’s, and multiple DJs will highlight the event.  There will also be an interactive special appearance from the Suicidal Sauces of the Queen City Roller Girls.  The event will be held from 7pm-midnight and will span throughout the multiple rooms and levels of the Essex Arts Center.  Admission includes beer, wine and the chance to design your very own steel sculpture which will then be plasma cut by professionals for you to take home.  All proceeds from this event will be donated to the Essex Arts Center, dedicated to promoting the visual and performing arts to disenfranchised inner city youth as well as young adults from all over the Buffalo Niagara region.

The Essex Arts Center, located on Essex Street on Buffalo's West Side, was started by Larry W. Griffis Jr. in 1969 to serve as a place for artists to live, create, show their work and grow as creative individuals. The Center was the first of its kind in Buffalo and was ahead of its time. The complex has many studios presently occupied by painters, musicians, sculptors, photographers, draftsman, filmmakers, and Big Orbit Gallery. The complex itself is a turn-of-the-century Ice House and is composed of four buildings.  The Arts Center has enriched thousands of people’s lives and the communities of Western New York for over four decades.

The Essex Arts Center is part of the Ashford Hollow Foundation, which also operates Griffis Sculpture Park.  The Arts Center is located at 30 Essex Street, Buffalo. Tickets are available presale at New World Records at its new location on Delaware Avenue, at the Terrapin Station on Hertel Avenue and at Urban Surf and Snowboard Shop on Elmwood Avenue for $35, and will also be available at the door for $40.  This is a 21+ event.
