Color and Light
The Albright-Knox Art Gallery will showcase works of art from the visionary Count Giuseppe Panza di Buomo
The Panza Collection: An Experience of Color and Light will be showcased at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery beginning on November 16th. Featuring more than seventy works of art from the collection belonging to the visionary art collector Count Giuseppe Panza di Biumo, the key concepts of color and light highlight this display. Spanning nearly fifty years of revolutionary art, the exhibit features artworks by pioneers in the use of actual light and continues to the present with the use of visual light embodied in monochromatic paintings and sculptures. The exhibition not only traces the historical development of color and light in contemporary art, it also illuminates the continuing evolution of Panza’s philosophic interest in these elements, as realized in many of the works of art he has collected since 1956. Sixteen artists will be highlighted.
Opening day festivities will feature a lecture with Senior Curator Douglas Dreishpoon and catalogue essayist David Bonetti at 7:30 p.m. entitled Now I See the Light: A Conversation with Artists from the Panza Collection. Light Up the Night, a festive black-tie gala event in celebration of the exhibition will take place the following night at six pm.
The Albright-Knox Art Gallery is Buffalo’s premiere art showplace. The Gallery is open daily, with free admission on Fridays. For more information, call 716-882-8700 or visit www.albrightknox.org
