Skate Over to Winter Fun

Rotary Rink in Downtown Buffalo offers free outdoor ice skating

Holiday tree lighting in Buffalo's Fountain PlazaFountain Plaza is a beautiful place in the summers for relaxing and watching the fountains and pond.  As the seasons change, the plaza is converted from reflecting pool to outdoor skating rink.  This year, the rink will open on December 1st, the day of the Holiday Tree Lighting Celebration.  This annual tradition beginning at 5 p.m. attracts people of all ages to watch the fireworks display, take a horse and buggy ride, meet Santa and participate in other family fun activities.  And of course, don’t miss the countdown to the lighting of the giant 40-foot tree at 6 p.m.!  Whether you prefer to skate during a lunch break, as a Friday night date or bring your family on the weekend, Rotary Rink is open Tuesday-Sunday during the day with late night hours.  Best of all, the skating’s free!  Don’t have skates?  Rotary Rink offers skate rentals and has a locker room available for a nominal cost.

Fountain Plaza is located at the corner of Main and Chippewa Streets in Downtown Buffalo.  Please call 716-854-RINK before heading downtown as the rink is weather dependent.  Rotary Rink will remain open until mid-March.  For more information, visit www.buffaloplace.com.
