Blues In The Night
Gillespie, Basie, Ellington, Holiday jammed here – and so can you!

There is no other place in the world like Buffalo's Colored Musicians Club. Walking into the 70 year old venue, one can hear and feel the ghosts of the world class performers that graced the downtown club’s stage.
The club offers live jazz in an intimate setting, featuring some of the best jazz you can find anywhere. It is open to non-members who want to share a love of jazz, and are seeking a relaxing time in a friendly place. If you are a musician, you can participate in the traditional Sunday night “Jam Sessions.” Jazz lovers can have a drink and listen in the company of other people who share their love for the music.
The history of the club goes back to the formation of Buffalo Local 533, one of the first African-American musicians' unions, in 1918. After the establishment of the Colored Musicians Club by the union members, in 1935, all the great stars of jazz who came to town in the golden years of jazz stopped in at the Colored Musicians Club to jam with local musicians. Names such as Dizzy Gillespie, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday were known to stop by the club and play a few tunes. The club became a place where the love of jazz brought people of all races, ideology and social-economic status together.
The club is consistently nominated as one of the best jazz spots in Western New York. Visit to www.coloredmusiciansclub.org to learn more about this historic night spot.
