A Rockin’ New Year’s Eve
Balldrop and fireworks highlight downtown festivities
For the 19th consecutive year, the New Year’s Eve sky above downtown Buffalo will bathe in fireworks with the 97 Rock’s Buffalo Balldrop and Fireworks display.
Started in 1988 by Buffalo’s leading classic rock radio station, the 97 Rock Balldrop and Fireworks Display has become a holiday tradition in the Buffalo Niagara region. An estimated crowd of 40,000 will gather at The Electric Building – on the corner of Washington and Genesee Street in downtown Buffalo – to welcome in the new year. The evening will feature a 2006 year-in-review on huge Jumbotron screens, the traditional balldrop from the roof of The Electric Building, followed by an explosive fireworks to welcome in 2007.
In addition to the balldrop and fireworks, downtown Buffalo will be an epicenter of fun on New Year’s Eve. The drug & alcohol free First Night Buffalo will happen at the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Admission to this family friendly event is $7, and features numerous musicians and entertainers. The revelry will be at full-force in the Theatre and Chippewa Entertainment districts. Many nightclubs, restaurants and pubs are featuring their own special brand of New Year’s celebrations. Joining in on the festivities are numerous downtown Buffalo hotels that will provide guests with a comfortable and safe play to stay during this most festive of nights.
