The annual Amaryllis & Cymbidium Show will take place January 17th-February 8th at the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens. The popular exhibition will showcase these beautiful flowers among the hundreds of domestic and tropical plant species in the garden. Built between 1897-1899 as one of the largest public greenhouses in the country, the tri-domed glass, wood and steel Botanical Gardens is the product of three extraordinary visionaries: landscaping architect Fredrick Law Olmsted, architects Lord & Burnham and botanist / plant-explorer John F. FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT TOURS: The Focus Tour of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Darwin Martin House Complex is held every 4th Saturday, year-round. Buffalo’s amazing collection of 19th and 20th Century architecture was featured on the cover of the Nov. 16, 2008 edition of the New York Times Arts & Leisure section in an article aptly titled “Saving Buffalo’s Untold Beauty”. The article dominated the front page of the Arts & Leisure section with a breathtaking photo of Daniel Burnham’s Ellicott Square Building as seen from Louis Sullivan’s Guaranty Building.
